Roskilde Viking Ship Museum
After our trip to Stockholm in 2018, the kids were really fascinated by the Vikings. We were lucky to be able to take them to visit this amazing Viking museum in Roskilde, Denmark.
The Viking Ship Museum exhibits the five 1000-year-old original ship finds from the Viking Age (the Skuldelev Ships) as well as a fleet of sailing reconstructions. Viking ships were filled with stones and sunk in Roskilde Fjord to block the passage of enemy ships. The museum is a nautical enthusiast’s paradise. The five hulking restorations are the main attraction, but the museum is rich with seafaring artifacts and displays, and there is a strong representation of the art of boatbuilding, including an option to buy your very own handmade wooden boat to take home.
